Business Lecturer
The CSU Study Centre Sydney

How long have you worked at the CSU Study Centre Sydney?

About 3 years.

Tell me about yourself and what drives you

I like to think I’m quite an outgoing person who has always enjoyed a challenge. My philosophy with regards to work is that you can only excel at something if you love what you are doing.

I can honestly say I love lecturing and I believe that’s a huge asset when it comes to performing well.

Tell me an interesting story about an experience you’ve had at the CSU Study Centre

Doing some lectures in a wheelchair after getting knocked down by a taxi was probably up there though.

How did you get to where you are today? E.g. if you are a teacher, what inspired you to teach?

I used to work at Merrill Lynch as an accountant in the City of London, and it occurred to me that I would be doing this for the next 30 years.

I decided I needed another challenge and have not looked back since, even though it was a bit of a gamble at the time.

In your opinion, why should students choose to study at the CSU Study Centres?

I think Charles Sturt University has a fantastic culture, in that it is such a friendly and multi cultural place to be. It also has the advantage of being quite small, so that you feel part of the place within a few weeks.

What do you love the most about working for the CSU Study Centres?

I just think that the people here create the nicest atmosphere I have ever worked in. It always put a smile on my face when I walk though the door.

What are your hobbies? What do you do at the weekends?

I love sport and spending time with my wife, family and friends.

Surfing, tennis, swimming and running are my sports and one of the main reasons I came to Australia. The weather and beaches are also fantastic.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever been to and why?

I come from a very rural part of England and I’d have to say London. I moved there straight after university without a job and it was amazing. It’s such a huge place, with so much life and energy. I ended up spending about 8 years there in total.

What advice would you give students who are planning to come to Australia? What should they be prepared for?

I hope student come over here with lots of energy and enthusiasm. This is one of the friendliest places I have ever been to, and there is so much to do here.

Get ready to meet an extraordinary range of people and make sure you see it all.
