Health facilities

Your health is important to us and we will refer you to a nearby health professional if you need to see a doctor.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

You will be provided with OSHC card after you arrive at the Study Center

It is a requirement of the Australian government that student visa holders take out medical insurance (Overseas Student Health Cover known as OSHC), for the duration of their student visa. Australian Health Management (AHM) is our preferred provider for student medical insurance in Melbourne and Sydney.

You will have paid for your OSHC when you accepted your offer to study at the CSU Study Centre. AHM is the health insurance company that will provide you with your OSHC.

If you are already studying in Australia you should inform us of your OSHC membership number and the expiry date of your cover. Please send a photocopy of your membership card to provide evidence that you have cover for at least the first 12 months of your program.

What OSHC includes:

A doctor (including specialist) to treat you in hospital, at home, or in a doctor’s surgery (85% rebate provided).

  • Pathology services such as blood tests
  • X-rays
  • Public hospital covers all hospital charges in a shared ward in any public hospital
  • Emergency ambulance transport
  • Prescription medicines limited to a maximum of $50/prescription and $150/calendar year

What OSHC does NOT include:

  • Dental
  • Physiotherapy
  • Optical (items such as glasses and contact lenses)
  • Treatment for medical conditions, or disabilities, in existence before you came to Australia during the first 12 months of membership
  • Assisted reproduction services, such as in-vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Treatment arranged before you came to Australia
  • Treatment you need while traveling to or from Australia
  • Treatment for which compensation or damages can be claimed either in Australia or overseas
  • Additional charges for single room accommodation in a public hospital
  • Treatment which would not otherwise be covered under the Medicare Benefits Schedule e.g. health screening services or cosmetic surgery
