ITC Business Analysis and Systems Analysis Streams Now Offered at the CSU Study Centres

19th August 2010

Charles Sturt University Study Centres have announced new program streams designed to address the increasing global demand for suitably qualified ITC Business Analysis and Systems Analysis professionals.

Recent changes to the Australian Government’s Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and the addition of these professions to the SOL confirm the growth in demand for these graduates. Now Study Centre students can tailor their courses to take maximum advantage of this demand. In addition, from the 1st July 2010, only those nominating an occupation on the SOL can qualify for independent skilled migration to Australia.

The new programs announced include:

The CSU Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelor of Information Technology and the Master of Information Technology are well placed to address this industry demand as they offer subjects highly relevant to the key functions of these two areas. Admission to the bachelor and master programs remain the same, as do the fees charged.

ITC Business analysts assess the overall business and information needs of an organisation. They coordinate the design of new IT solutions to improve business efficiency and productivity. ITC Business analysts focus on various fields. Some specialise in the analyst/programmer area, while others have conventional skills in business or management services areas such as accounting or administration, supplemented by training in IT.

Systems Analysis is critical for contemporary system development. The Systems Analyst (also called Business Systems Analyst, Business Systems Planner, Solutions Architect) works together with Project Managers and System Developers to realise overall organisational IT goals. In particular, Project Managers rely on the Systems Analysis to assist in providing more detailed project objectives, system requirements, business process analysis and cost-benefit analysis.

The new streams will be included in the 2011 CSU Study Centre prospectus.

Charles Sturt University’s Master of Professional Accounting Gains CPA Accreditation

19th August 2010

CPA Australia met on August 11 to review CSU’s Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) accreditation application. During this meeting it was announced that accreditation of the MPA has been approved and graduates will now gain CPA associate membership.

The MPA provides a professional accounting education to graduates of non-accounting disciplines and satisfies the academic requirements of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and CPA Australia.

The course is designed for students seeking a career change as it opens the way to many vocational choices in areas of public practice, commerce and industry, government and semi-government organisations and accounting education.

The Master of Professional Accounting and the Graduate Diploma of Accounting are available at the CSU Study Centres in Melbourne and Sydney from November 2010.

The Graduate Diploma of Accounting is a pathway into the MPA. Applicants who do not have an undergraduate degree but have a lower level qualification (such as a two-year Advanced Diploma, an Associate Degree or a three-year diploma from China) will be considered for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Accounting. Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma of Accounting gain admission to the Master of Professional Accounting and are required to complete a further eight subjects.

Healthy Demand for CSU Study Centres

A healthy demand for courses offered at the CSU Study Centres in Sydney and Melbourne signals CSU’s growth and positive reputation among students.

It was reported in January 2010 that commencements into the CSU Study Centres continued to increase faster than the Australian higher education national average. In 2009 the CSU Study Centres grew by 37% against a higher education national average of 16.3% over the previous year. This was the third consecutive year of a 35% or higher growth.

“The continued increase in offers is an extremely pleasing trend” said Executive Director of Student Administration, Mr Geoff Honey. “It illustrates that CSU courses are attractive and relevant to prospective students and enhances CSU’s reputation as a leading educator for the professions.”

Prospective students interested in applying for intakes in 2010 should consult the CSU Study Centre’s course pages and contact a Student Enrolment Advisor. Intake dates are also noted on the CSU Study Centres website.

CSU Graduation Ceremony - May 2008

On Wednesday 7th and Friday 9th of May 2008 we celebrated our students' completion of their course with a Graduation Ceremony.

The ceremony was held at the CSU Bathurst Campus for the Study Centre’s Bachelor and Master graduands. This was the first graduation for our Melbourne CSU Study Centre. Azeem Mohammad (Course Coordinator Business Programs - Melbourne Study Centre) was proud to see the first CSU Study Centre Melbourne graduates receive their awards.

The CSU music maestro set the scene for the colourful academic procession with inspirational classical organ music.

Dr Margaret Drever (Course Coordinator Business Programs - Sydney Study Centre) and Dr Jeffrey Gosper (Course Coordinator IT Programs - Sydney Study Centre) joined the Chancellor (Lawrence Willett), Vice Chancellor (Dr Ian Goulter), Dean of the Faculty of Business (Prof John Hicks), and other CSU senior academics in a procession and took their place on the stage for the graduation ceremony.

The official welcome was read in aboriginal by Gloria Rogers (a Wiradjuri Elder) to honour the people who once dwelled upon the land where the CSU campus now resides.

As a key part of the ceremony the University conferred honorary degrees on Sister Pat Linnane, for her tireless life’s work dedicated to helping those less fortunate then ourselves. In her ‘Occasional Address’ Sister Pat reminded us all that with education comes responsibility, responsibility to the community, responsibility to those less fortunate amongst us, and also responsibility to mother earth.

Our students made up a significant proportion of the students receiving their degrees at the ceremony. Students were also joined by their families and friends who travelled from around the world to celebrate the success of years of dedication and hard work by their loved ones.

We were proud of each and every student as they crossed the stage to shake the hand of the Chancellor and Dean as they received their degree certificates.

The ceremony was completed by a group of young talented CSU musicians, named ‘Charlie Lion’, performing their own original rock song.

It was truly a memorable and wonderful occasion at the CSU Bathurst Campus.
