There are many different types of rental accommodation available in Sydney. Students can choose from houses, flats or apartments, and these can be furnished or unfurnished. Living in rental accommodation gives students greater personal freedom, but also means greater personal responsibility. To rent a house or apartment, a bond is required (usually one month's rent), and you will be required to pay for the connection and usage of utilities such as gas, electricity and telephone or cable.
If the house or apartment is unfurnished, you will need to provide your own furniture, electrical appliances, towels, sheets, etc. Living with other students in a house or apartment will help you to share the expenses of this type of accommodation.
Students over 18 can choose to look for private housing by renting a flat or apartment in the local area.
Rental properties range from $200 to $350+ plus living expenses (food, utilities, transport, entertainment etc).
Check the Yellow pages for real estate agents in the nearby areas. You can also use whereis.com to find areas close to campus.
